Review: Skruf Original Portion

Ah, my old friend Skruf! It’s been too long since we have met. Today, we’re going to be checking out one of their original products, the regular strength, original portion Skruf! This one is now called Skruf No27 Original Portion, seemingly adopting the numbering system that products in Norway have done for several years, but I don’t know. If you’re a lover of traditional flavored snus products, Skruf is a different twist on that flavor profile. So, let’s dive into it and get to know this one!

Opening the can up, you’ll notice this one has the standard catch lid on top. You can pop that right off to discard of your used portions. The flavor description on this one says, “The OG snus from Skruf! Regular sized and medium strong original portions with a classic flavor of full-bodied tobacco topped with tones of bergamot and rose oil”. Each can weighs in at 21.6 grams and I count 24 portions in the can for 0.9g each. The nicotine content says 13mg/g, and with 0.9g portions that sits at 11.7mg/portion. So, just a hair above regular strength but not quite to the strong level.

So, what is it that makes Skruf different? Well, open the can and you’ll pick it up in the aroma. Skruf uses rose oil, which adds an interesting flavor and aroma to the traditional flavor profile. In the aroma, I notice bergamot up front, an earthy tobacco base, and then lightly sweet floral hints. The portions are nice and plump, with a good moisture amount, and a comfortable feel under the lip. But the flavor is where this one really shines. The citrus taste is front and center, and nice and pleasant. Behind it, I notice a lightly sweet floral taste, and a gentle earthy tobacco base. It’s not super peppery, and is a pretty well rounded taste. The nicotine strength on this one is quite nice, and delivers right at the regular strength level. The flavor hangs out a good 45-50 minutes on average, so a good life span with this one.

The Bottom Line

This is a tremendous snus. The inclusion of rose oil is what sets Skruf apart, because it’s not a cheap additive! If you like General Snus and you’ve never had Skruf, you owe it to yourself to try this one out. I’m more partial to Skruf Xtra Stark Original because I like the tobacco base more, but this one is still pretty good. On your next order, throw a can or two on your order. You’ll thank me later!
