Review: Puck Spearing (Extra Strong Large)

Review: Puck Spearing (Extra Strong Large)

Today, we have another Puck product to check out! I recently reviewed their icing one, but this is the one I enjoy more: Spearing! Mainly, because icing has a more peppermint type of flavor and this one has more spearmint to it. When it comes to mint, I enjoy the spearmint flavor over peppermint. I think it’s because it’s more smooth. Peppermint is nice, but if I want a sweet mint taste, usually spearmint is what I reach for. Puck is a product from The Snus Factory in Sweden. They’re also the factory that makes my Artisan Snus, so I know they’re one that makes some high quality stuff! So, let’s check this one out and get to know Puck Spearing a little better!

The flavor description on this one says, “Puck Spearing Extra Strong Large by the The Snus Factory is a snus tailor-made for those who want to experience the ultimate freshness that only an icy mint flavor and extra strong kicks can provide! It packs a high nicotine content (18 mg/portion) and it delivers a refreshingly cold menthol-spearmint flavor. Its well-filled and large white portions have dry surfaces, which means that they’re designed to provide a low drip experience. This minimal amount of drip lengthens their near instant release both flavor and nicotine”. Each can weighs 16 grams and has 20 portions per can. That means each portion weighs in right at 0.8 grams. The nicotine content in total is 23mg/g, and with the 0.8g portions that’s 18.4mg/portion.

One quick note, with this one, you’ll find the catch lid on the bottom of the can, not the top. So if you’re looking for a snus portion disposal compartment, flip the can over and you’ll find it right on the bottom.

Opening up the can, I detect a mild aroma of spearmint, along with a little tobacco character. I like that I can actually pick up the tobacco base in the aroma, and in the flavor. With most products, the mint masks it, but you don’t find that as much with this one. The portions are pretty soft, and have a nice feel under the upper lip. They’re slightly dry, but not super dry. They also have a slight tingle under the upper lip, a mild burn at first, and then a gentle cooling sensation. In the flavor, it’s a pretty gentle taste of spearmint. It’s lightly sweet, and pretty refreshing. Again, I do like that I can taste tobacco with this one, which you don’t encounter in a lot of mint snus products. The nicotine kick is pretty solid, delivering at the extra strong level and packing a nice punch to it. The flavor hangs out a good 1-1.5 hours, so no complaints there! I think that’s a nice benefit you get when you find a more dry pouch. The flavor tends to last longer with these that don’t have as much moisture to them.

The Bottom Line

It’s a good snus! All in all, I enjoyed it. And yes, not just because they make my Artisan Snus. It has a refreshing flavor to it, and the presence of tobacco taste in the base is pretty nice. I know, there are a lot of mint products out. Honestly, many of them blur together to me after almost 15 years of reviewing snus. But hey, I think this one stands out, due to the fact that I can actually taste tobacco in this tobacco product. So, if you like mint, give it a go! It’s a pretty decent snus!
