Review: Oliver Twist Golden

Review: Oliver Twist Golden

This is a new one for me. Well, here. I’ve had Oliver Twist before, but I’ve yet to pen a review on this platform about these. These are “chewing tobacco bits”, and they’re made by House of Oliver Twist, in Denmark. This is a company that is now owned by Swedish Match, though this company has been producing these since 1805. These aren’t your regular snus. They also aren’t nicotine pouches. Some call them chewing tobacco, but it depends on your definition of chewing tobacco. I’ve always just called them “tobacco bits”, personally.

I won’t go too much into how these are made, but if you’re interested, they actually have a neat video on their YouTube channel where they show you the process. It’s a fun watch if you’re new to Oliver Twist. Here’s a link to that!

Opening the can, you’ll notice the tobacco bits are in a little package. It’s pretty neat, and keeps them fresh. I like to break it open, then dump them back into the can.

The description from SnusExpress.com for these says “Oliver Twist Golden – Chewing Tobacco with small rolls of tobacco you put between your jaw and cheek. This variant of Oliver Twist has a smoky and dark tobacco flavor. Its discreet tobacco rolls have natural nicotine contents, about 5 mg/portion. You can now buy your Oliver Twist Golden Chewing Tobacco online right here SnusExpress.com!”

Each one of these cans weighs in at 7 grams, with anywhere from 24 to 30 bits per can. The nicotine content, via SnusExpress.com, is said to be 17mg/g, or 4.99mg per tobacco bit.

So, how do you use these? How many do you use? Really, the experience is up to you. You can use just one, or you can use several. I usually use two, myself. I like to use them like the EU chew bags. I’ll throw a few in, park them in my upper lip, and chew them from time to time to release more flavor and moisture. They’re pretty easy to use.

Opening up the tin, before you put one in, take a big smell. If you like tobacco, you’ll love the aroma from these. It is pure, beautiful tobacco. I pick up a dark tobacco base, with hints of raisin. It has an earthy presence to it that really connects you to the tobacco leaf.

The flavor is really nice. It’s a natural, raw, rustic, rich tobacco base. I chew them here and there to release more of that flavor profile. It’s darker than most, and heavy. I pick up notes of raising, a slight saltiness, and a touch of faint pepper. It is, overall, a taste of tobacco, and I love tobacco.

In the nicotine strength, with two of these, I’m pretty satisfied. I use mostly strong to regular strength snus, so when I have a few of these I find that my nicotine cravings are pretty well met. You could use one if you have lighter cravings. You could use more if you have stronger cravings. But, that is ultimately up to you and what you’re looking for.

Much like loose, the flavor on these hangs out for a while and is quite enjoyable. Usually I can chew on these for up to an hour, myself.

The Bottom Line

I really like these. I wish they were bigger, but for what they are they’re fine. These are, to me, like loose snus. They’re a great way to connect you to the tobacco leaf itself. Of the entire Oliver Twist variety, I find these to have the best flavor. I am a lover of all things tobacco, and these have that flavor that I love about the tobacco leaf: the earthiness. Don’t get me wrong, there are other Oliver Twist flavors, and they’re all good! But, this is the one I think is their best! So, if you like good, quality tobacco, you owe it to yourself to try these!
