Review: Nick & Johnny Americana

And now, a review I’m particularly excited to do. Today, we talk about the ‘Murica inspired release from Swedish Match: Nick & Johnny Americana. This is a love/hate snus, many can’t stand it. However there are many, like myself, who absolutely love it. It is. So, let’s get into it, shall we?

Opening the can, you’ll find the catch lid on top in it’s usual place, a quick and easy way to discard of your used portions. The flavor description for this one says, “An extra strong original portion snus from Nick & Johnny with a flavor that has an American touch! It combines spicy tobacco with tones of cherry, almond and subtle notes of wintergreen, violet and raspberries”. This is where it gets interesting. Each can weighs in at 22 grams. I count 20 portions in the can. This makes this a very unique snus, as each portion weighs 1.1 grams each. Most portions weigh under a gram nowadays, but these are quite different! The nicotine content sits at 15mg/g, however the 1.1 gram portions increase it to 16.5mg in each pouch! 

When you open the can, an aroma of cherry greets you. It is accompanied by a spicy tobacco base, and a gentle touch of wintergreen. The pouches are big, quite plump, and moist. They have a quick release of flavor under the lip, and feel quite comfortable against the gum. I pick up a rich, bold flavor of cherry. Behind it, subtle, sweet hints of American wintergreen. It’s slightly nutty in nature, and has a spicy tobacco base. All in all, it’s quite delicious. The nicotine strength feels strong, but it isn’t too much. It feels to be a little above the strong level, but it doesn’t kick your head off by any means. The flavor lasts quite a while; usually I can enjoy this one for up to 45-50 minutes.

The Bottom Line

This is a snus you have to try for yourself. At some point or another, every snus enthusiast should try Americana. To me, it’s one of the most unique snus products on the market. I find it to be quite good, and a true standout in the world of snus. So, what are you waiting for?
