Review: Oden’s Extreme Melon
This year, we recently started growing watermelons in our garden. When I saw this one pop up on my calendar as today’s review, I had to go out and get a shot of it in our watermelon patch. It makes a great pairing, a fresh, juicy watermelon along with a tasty snus. When people think about melon, they usually think about Jakobson’s. But, Oden’s has a pretty solid watermelon snus in their product line, so today we’re going to check it out and talk about Oden’s Melon Extreme!
The flavor description on this one says, “A fruity original portion snus from Oden’s with ultra-strong kicks and a sweet melon flavor!”. The catch lid is located right on top of the can, for quick and easy disposal of used portions if you aren’t near a trash receptacle. Each can weighs in at 20 grams and has 20 portions, at 1 gram each. The 22mg/g nicotine strength sits right at 22mg/portion, due to the 1g portions.
Opening the can, the aroma that comes through is a present, lightly sweet aroma of melon. It is watermelon in essence, but also seems to have a little cantaloupe presence to it. The portion are nice and plump, moderately moist, and feel great under the lip. They have a pretty quick flavor release and a great amount of flavor presence. In the flavor profile, it’s pretty enjoyable. It’s mild, not super sweet, and very well balanced. The melon taste is clear, but it's not an overpowering one. You can also taste a little tobacco in this one, which is pretty nice. The nicotine kick is pretty strong, this is an “Extreme”, after all. To me, it feels to hang out right around the extra strong level. The flavor longevity is pretty solid with this one, lasting a good 40-45 minutes, on average.
The Bottom Line
I know, when people think melon their mind usually goes right to the Jakobson’s version. But, don’t sleep on Oden’s Melon! It’s a pretty tasty snus. It’s not mega sweet, and is a pretty well balanced flavor. The nicotine kick is stronger, so be prepared for that. But if you’re looking for something different to try out, this is one you should consider grabbing on your next order.
