Review: Al Capone Berry

Review: Al Capone Berry

Today, we’re going to be checking out a mini dry product in the Al Capone family! This is Al Capone Berry, a white mini dry portion snus. I recently reviewed the vanilla one and realized I haven’t had these in quite a while, so it’s been fun diving into this series and revisiting this. The berry flavor of snus is one that’s been expanding a lot the past few years. When I started snus back in 2009, berry wasn’t a common flavor. But now, we’re seeing more and more companies making flavors like this one. This one has been around for a while. I’m not entirely sure when it launched, but I know the first time I had it was back in 2020, so it’s been around a while. It’s a pretty interesting product, especially in regard to the portions, which I’ll talk about in just a second. So, let’s get into this review and talk about this snus!

The flavor description on this one says, “Al Capone Berry Mini Dry is the perfect snus for you who’s looking for something incredibly discreet packed with flavor and nicotine. Its mini sized snus portions have mild tobacco blends and they deliver strong nicotine kicks (8 mg/portion) together with a fruity and sweet berry flavor! The dry surfaces of its white and comfortable portions ensure that they drip minimally, which lengthens their release of both flavor and nicotine”. Each can weighs in at 6 grams and contains 20 portions, for 0.3 grams each. The nicotine content, in total, is 26mg/g. That may sound high, but with the 0.3 gram pouch size that actually breaks down to only 7.98mg per portion. Also, this can does not have a ‘catch lid’ on it like others. It actually has a catch drawer, or compartment, on the back of the can where you can discard of your used portions if you aren’t near a trash bin!

The first thing you’ll notice when you open the can is that yes, the portions are quite small. They are mini portions, after all. But they’re also quite dry. When you touch them, you’ll notice how stiff they are. There isn’t much added moisture to these, so they’re very stiff and dry. The aroma that I pick up at first is a mild berry smell. To me, it’s kind of like a mix of cranberry and cherry, maybe a little raspberry. It’s slightly floral, and not super sweet. Putting a few pouches under my lip (I don’t use a lot of mini portions, so I use two at a time) I find them to be pretty dry and stiff. However, in time, they do get more soft as they start to moisten up, so give them time! In time, they’ll feel much better under the lip. However, at first, they are a bit uncomfortable. The flavor is pretty nice. It’s a midler berry taste, and it isn’t super sweet. It’s kind of like a mix of cherry and cranberry, at least to my taste buds. It’s a pretty balanced and enjoyable flavor. The nicotine strength isn’t too strong if you use one, but I find with two of them I’m pretty satisfied. But that’s just me. You may want to use one, because you want less nicotine. To each their own! The flavor lasts about 35-45 minutes, on average.

The Bottom Line

At the end of the day, this isn’t a product for me, personally. But that’s because I don’t use mini portions. I think this is a fine product for those who are into this sort of thing. If you don’t want a heavy drip, you’ll be very pleased with these mini pouches. Or, you may just want something more discrete. Here you go, Al Capone is what you’re looking for. Flavor-wise, it’s pretty enjoyable. I like that it isn’t overly sweet, and I like how mild and balanced the flavor is. I think people who enjoy mini snus will be quite pleased with this one!
