Review: Jakobsson’s Melon Original Portion
When this snus launched back in 2012, it was something different from everything else on the market. This one has a more sweet flavor than most traditional products out there. This is one that I really enjoy when it starts warming up; I consider it to be a perfect summer flavor! So, what makes this one so popular? Well, let’s find out!
This one has recently gone through a design change, and now comes with a gold can. The catch lid is still on top, but the Gotlandssnus logo on the inside of the catch lid has been removed. The flavor description on this one says, “This flavorsome original portion snus from Jakobssons Snus delivers a sweet and fruity melon flavor together with solid kicks. Strong, sweet and savory!” The can notes a 20 gram weight, and I count 20 portions weighing 1 gram each. The nicotine sits right at 14mg/g, which puts it right at 14mg/portion due to the 1 gram portion weight.
Opening up the can, the aroma is quite a present one. It definitely will fill a vehicle if you open it in the car. This one has a present, sweet smell of watermelon to it. The portions are nice and plump, soft, and feel great under the upper lip. The flavor on this one is certainly a sweet one. If you’ve had other snus products, you’ll no doubt notice this one is on the sweeter side. The watermelon flavor is present, and front and center. It definitely has a big, bold, fruity flavor profile. In the nicotine strength, it’s strong, but not too strong. To me, it feels a little above regular strength but it’s not too overbearing at all. The flavor hangs out quite a while! Usually, I can enjoy this one for 45-50 minutes on average!
The Bottom Line
This snus isn’t going to be one for everyone. Now, if you like sweeter products, you’ll probably really enjoy this one. If sweetness isn’t your thing, you may not. But, to me, it’s a tasty snus. It’s not one I can use full time, because the sweetness can definitely turn on me if I use it too much. But, when the warm weather hits I’ll buy a few cans to keep in the freezer because on warm days outdoors this one hits just right.
