Review: General Mini Original Portion
In the world of snus, there is no snus brand more popular than General. The General family comes in a wide assortment of portion sizes, nicotine strengths, and flavors. In the traditional flavored side of the General family, there is a size and strength for everyone, no matter how you like it. Today, we are checking out one of the smaller members in the General Snus line: General Original Portion Mini. I personally don’t use a lot of mini portions, though I did back in the day when I first started using snus. I know some who prefer them due to their lower nicotine strength, or their smaller and more discrete size. So, why don’t we check this snus out?
The flavor description for this one says, “A mini-sized original portion snus perfect for you who love General’s classic flavor of spicy tobacco and bergamot, but who want to enjoy it in the most discreet way possible”. You’ll find the catch lid on top of the can, which is a compartment you can use to toss your used snus portions. Each can weighs 10.4g and has 20 portions, for 0.52g each. It sits at 8mg/g in total nicotine, but with the 0.52g weight that's 4.16mg of nicotine per portion.
Opening up the can, you’ll notice the familiar aroma of General Snus. I encounter a present smell of bergamot, a hay like presence, some pepper, and an earthy tobacco base. The portions are pretty small. They are soft, and moist like your standard General Snus, but have a smaller and more discrete size under the lip. In the flavor, it has the traditional, beautiful taste of General Snus. You’ll encounter a present smell of bergamot up front, along with a spicy tobacco base right behind it. There is a subtle grassy, hay-like note to it, as well. The flavor blends together to make a nice, simple taste of traditional snus. In the nicotine strength, this is a lighter one. It’s not going to be as strong as your standard snus. It has a lighter strength, and a lighter nicotine strength. In the flavor longevity, this one lasts a good 45 minutes or so, on average.
The Bottom Line
If you like the standard taste of General Snus, but want it in a smaller size, then look no further. They also make a white portion version of this one, too, if you want something a little more dry. But as far as both of them go, I think this is the better one, personally. I prefer a bigger portion, but I know mini portions have their merits. Some prefer them. If that’s the camp you find yourself in, I think you’ll be quite pleased with this one.
