Review: General White Portion
I like when I get to review a product that I personally enjoy. It’s true I review a lot of products. Some I like, some I may not be the biggest fan of. But today, we’re talking about a long-time personal favorite of mine. This is Swedish Match’s General White Portion. In 2009, when I first started using snus, this was one of my earliest loves, and one I used every day for many years. This is one of the most popular products on the market today, so let’s get into the review and find out what makes this one so good!
The catch lid on this one is located on the top of the can. For those who may not be familiar, this is a place you can deposit your used portions if you aren’t near a trash receptacle. The product description for this one says, “A true Swedish snus icon from General! These white snus portions deliver medium strong kicks together with General’s traditional snus flavor of spicy tobacco and bergamot.” Each can weighs 24 grams and has 24 portions, weighing 1 gram each. The nicotine content is 8mg/g, which breaks down to 8mg/portion, putting this one right at the regular strength mark.
When you open the can, you’ll notice a mild, gentle smell of bergamot. There’s a light tobacco character, and some nice peppery tones. The portions are arranged in a swirl, known as the “Star Formation”. I suggest rolling the portion around in your fingers before putting it under your lip (AKA “fluffing”) to loosen up the tobacco and make the portion more comfortable when you put it in. The flavor on this one is absolutely sublime. It is, quite possibly, the most well balanced flavor in the traditional General range. The bergamot flavor is present, but gently balanced out by the mild, earthy tobacco base. There is a peppery component to this one, and a little spiciness! The nicotine strength on this one has a steady, stable delivery and feels right at the regular strength level. The flavor lasts quite a long time; usually I can enjoy General White for up to an hour, sometimes more!
The Bottom Line
There’s a reason this is one of the most beloved members of the General Snus family: it’s just that good! In terms of flavor, this one is so incredibly well balanced that it’s a snus you can use day in and day out, all day long. I’m usually more of an original portion guy, don’t get me wrong, but General White portion just hits all the notes just right!
