Review: Jakobsson’s Mint Original Portion
I remember when this snus launched back in 2011. This one was, and always has been, quite a popular mint product for snus fans. It’s one on the sweeter side, but is a really unique tasting mint snus. Honestly, I can’t think of anything off the top of my head that really tastes like this one. When there’s a million mint products out there, that makes this one special. So, let’s throw a portion in and talk about it!
Recently, Swedish Match has changed all the Gotlandssnus products to gold cans. Another sad development is that they removed the compass in the catch lid, which is a bummer. I always thought that was neat. The flavor description on this one says, “a cool peppermint flavor that is complemented by tones of herbs and a light touch of sweetness”. Each can clocks in at 20 grams, and contains 20 portions for 1 gram each. The nicotine content sits right at 10mg/g, so with the 1 gram portions that’s 10mg/portion.
Opening the can I notice a smooth, sweet aroma of peppermint. There seems to be a dab of menthol in the back, along with some sweetness and a light herbal hint. The portions are nice and plump and have a great moisture amount. Under the lip they feel soft, and have a quick release of flavor. Being a mint product, you also get a nice cooling sensation when you put one in. The flavor is where this one shines. The peppermint is on the sweeter side, but pretty smooth in nature. There’s a gentle herbal hint to this one, and a subtle tobacco base. It’s a pretty well rounded flavor! The nicotine delivers right around the regular strength level, maybe just a touch above that. The flavor hangs out a good 45-50 minutes.
The Bottom Line
There are a lot of mint products out there. I could probably make a top 10 list at some point, and I’m pretty sure this one would be on it. It’s such a unique mint flavor. I’m not usually into the super sweet products, but this is one of the sweeter ones that I actually enjoy. Gotlandssnus makes some great tasting products, and this one is no except. There also aren’t a lot of original portion mint products out there! So, if you like the taste of mint, you’ll definitely enjoy this one.
