Review: Göteborgs Rapé Original Portion
For a little over a decade now, I’ve been a big fan of Göteborgs Rapé. It’s been one that has been in my daily rotation for quite some time now. It’s one with a more unique flavor, and is one of the most popular snus products on the market today. I mostly use the white portion version myself, usually the XRANGE version. But, Swedish Match brought the original portion back out of retirement a few years ago and today we’re going to dive into a review and talk about it. So, grab your favorite can of snus, sit back and relax, and let’s talk about GR Original Portion!
The flavor description for this one says, “A classic original portion snus from Gцteborgs Rapй with an iconic taste of mild tobacco topped by hints of lavender, citrus and juniper”. Opening up the can, you’ll find the catch lid on top of the can, which is a quick place you can discard of your used portions if you aren’t near a trash bin. Each can weighs 24 grams and has 24 portions, which means plump 1 gram portions! The nicotine content sits at 9.5mg/g, and with 1g portions that's easily calculated at 9.5mg/portion!
Opening up the can, a present aroma of juniper greets you, along with floral hints of lavender and a gentle, earthy tobacco base. I definitely smell and taste more tobacco presence in this one than I do with the white portion versions, that’s something that stands out more with this particular variant. The portions are nice and plump, moist, and feel great under the lip. The flavor comes on pretty quick with this one, too. The juniper taste is what I pick up the most, followed by a nice tobacco base. There’s a little lavender in the mix, along with a very faint lemon in the background. The nicotine strength on this one feels about the regular level, and has a nice delivery to it. I find the flavor lasts a good 45-50 minutes, on average.
The Bottom Line
The GR line is pretty good stuff. I have been using GR for about a decade myself, and I never leave the house without a can. Granted, I like the white portion more because I think the flavor is a little more balanced. But, I use this one from time to time for the same reason I use the loose version from time to time: because I like to taste more tobacco in the mix. If you are looking for an ‘alternative’ flavored snus to mix up your rotation, it really doesn’t get any better than GR. It’s a classic!
