Review: Planet Mercury Nicotine Pouches
I’ve always been a big space nerd. Growing up, I was fascinated with everything NASA was doing, the Shuttle program, space stations, all that. To this day, I still am obsessed with anything to do with outer space. When I saw this new line of nicotine pouches came out called “Planet”, I was pretty eager to try it out. It’s clever branding, to be honest. I have a bunch of these to review, so I figured I’d just go down the line in order of the planets. This is the first one I’m reviewing, so I’m starting with Mercury, the planet closest to the sun.
Mercury is a relatively small planet, actually the smallest planet in our solar system. Well, it’s bigger than Pluto, which I still consider a planet, but I have to be specific. Fun fact, it has the shortest year in our solar system due to how close to the sun it is, only 88 days for one trip around the sun! Mercury is one of the only planets in our solar system to not have any moons, along with the planet Venus. Now that I’ve included all that fun stuff, let’s get into the review and talk about this nicotine pouch product.
The product description on this one says, “Planet Coconut Mercury Slim – An all-white and tobacco free snus from the manufacturer Nikotabako that offers a stimulating and tasty experience in a discreet way. Its slim nicotine pouches deliver strong nicotine kicks (10.5 mg/portion) together with a sweet and smooth coconut flavor.The filling used consists of natural plant fibers, and it ensures that these nicopods won’t stain and that they drip minimally. This low amount of drip lengthens in turn their release of both flavor and nicotine”. I’m not sure how the flavor of coconut corresponds to the planet Mercury, but it’s what they went with. Each can weighs 13 grams and has 20 portions, for 0.65 grams each. The nicotine content sits at 16mg/g, or 10.4mg per portion due to the 0.65 gram pouch weight.
Opening up the can, the aroma reminds me a lot of sun tan lotion. I’m not saying that is a bad thing. I love the summer, and the smell makes me think of summer. The aroma of coconut comes through clearly, and it seems to almost have a hint of menthol to it. The pouches are slim, pretty soft to the touch, and with a nice mouthfeel. I find a slight cooling sensation under the lip when I put a pouch in. In the flavor profile, I find the coconut flavor to come through pretty clearly. It’s gentle, mild, and slightly sweet in nature. I do notice a dab of menthol in the flavor, but it’s pretty mild. It also yields a subtle cooling sensation under the lip, which is pretty nice. The flavor is certainly an interesting one though, and not one I commonly find in nicotine pouch products. The nicotine strength on this one is a little over the regular strength, and feels to have a pretty stable delivery of nicotine to it, feeling just above regular. The flavor hangs out a good 40-45 minutes, on average.
The Bottom Line
This one was pretty intriguing! Over the years, I haven’t encountered many flavors like this. I encounter some that are pineapple-coconut but this one is pure coconut. Almond Joy has always been my favorite candy bar, so I love the coconut flavor in this one. I’m not sure why menthol was needed, but it’s fine. It’s not too much. But, if you’re looking for a tropical type of flavor or want to try something different from everything else out there, I think you’ll enjoy this one!
