Review: Grov Original Portion
Grov is, in my opinion, one of the most flavorful products out there for lovers of the tobacco taste. When people ask what the best tobacco-centric snus is, Grov is frequently one of the ones I answer. This one, Artisan Signature Blend, and Ettan White are the kings of the tobacco flavor for me. Grov is a heritage brand, and has been around for a very, very long time. It’s one of Swedish Match’s flagship products. From the early days of my personal snus journey, Grov has been one that I’ve enjoyed time and time again. So, let’s talk about it!
This one has the standard catch lid on top of the can, so you can pop it off and easily discard of your used portions. The flavor description says, “This classic original portion snus from Grov delivers medium strong kicks together with a robust and dark tobacco flavor that incorporates tones of geranium, dried herbs and light notes of almond, tar and wood”. Each can weighs in at 24 grams, and with 24 portions that means plump 1 gram portions! The nicotine content sits at 8mg/g, and with 1 gram portions that easily calculates to 8mg/portion.
Opening the can, a rich, dark tobacco aroma greets you. Behind it, I notice notes of oak and a little geranium. To me, geranium comes across as a green, herbal type of character. It’s not super present, but it does round out the aroma and flavor of this one. The portions are nice and plump, moist, and have a quick release of flavor. The flavor profile is where this one really shines. From start to finish, you’ll get a flavor of rich, dark tobacco. The geranium adds a nice herbal backbone to this one, and the notes of wood really round it out. It’s beautiful. The nicotine strength on this one sits at the regular level, and has a nice, steady delivery of nicotine. I find the flavor on this one hangs out a good 45-50 minutes.
The Bottom Line
If you like the taste of tobacco, Grov is one of the best. For many years, this was the snus I reached for when it came to the tobacco flavor. Though I mostly use Artisan now, I still always keep cans of Grov in the freezer. If you’ve never had it, it’s a must try. This is, in my opinion, one of Swedish Match’s best products. It’s a simple, straightforward, no nonsense snus for the most discerning snuser. Go grab a can on your next order, I have no doubt you’ll love it!
