Review: Oden’s Extreme (Original Portion)
Back in 2011, a new company called GN Tobacco popped up on the scene. I remember them showing up on the old SnusOn forums and having some pretty interesting discussions with the snus community. But they did something different, they listened to what people wanted and started making products that no one else was making: the strongest products in the world. Oden’s Extreme was one of their first releases, and clocking in at 22mg/g it pushed the envelope for how strong a snus could be. Now, I’m not a big user of super strong products, but I’ve always had a soft spot for this one and really enjoyed the flavor. Today, we’re going to get to know Oden’s Extreme a little better!
The flavor description for this one says, “This original portion snus from Oden’s is perfect for you who want something ultra-strong with a traditional snus flavor!”. Opening the can, you’ll notice the catch lid on top is on a little hinge, so it stays connected to the can when you open it to discard of your used portions. I counted 20 portions in the can, and with a 20 gram can weight that means you get 1 gram portions! The nicotine content is a staggering 22mg/g, which easily breaks down to 22mg/portion due to the 1 gram portions.
Opening up the can, I notice the portions to be semi-moist, soft to the touch, and quite plump! The aroma that comes out is beautiful. If you like tobacco, you’ll really dig this one. It’s a spicy aroma, not so much from chili pepper but more on the side of black pepper. There’s a rich tobacco base, and just a faint touch of airy citrus. When I put a portion in I’m pleased with how soft it is against the gum, the plump feeling, and the quick flavor release. The taste is top notch on this one. There’s just something about the spicy tobacco base on this one that I’ve always loved. There’s a little hint of citrus to it, but to me Oden’s Extreme has really been all about that rich, dark, spicy tobacco essence. The nicotine strength on this one is no slouch, delivering firmly at the extra strong level. If you’re like me and use a lot of regular strength products, you’ll definitely notice a nice kick with this one. I find the flavor hangs out a good 45-50 minutes, on average!
The Bottom Line
While Oden’s Extreme is a bit too strong for me to use all the time, I still keep it in my rotation and always have a few cans in the freezer. To me, it’s a great snus to use after meals. They also make a loose version of this which is quite tasty. If you like the taste of tobacco, I highly recommend this one. The spicy flavor of Oden’s Extreme is one that people have loved for many years now, and still remains a popular snus to this day!
