What is Zyn, why is it everywhere?

There is one word that has become quite popular in the vernacular of the world of smokeless tobacco and tobacco-free nicotine products: Zyn. Swedish Match’s monster brand has grown and grown since it launched. The first time I encountered it was back in 2016, so it’s been around almost a decade at this point. In the world of nicotine pouches it's the most popular of all the nicotine pouch products. So, you may be wanting to know more about Zyn. You may be wanting to buy some online, and not having much luck finding it. Don’t worry! Today, I’m going to tell you all about Zyn and I’m going to suggest a lot of great alternatives that you can easily find here on SnusExpress.com and have sent right to your door!

What is Zyn? Is it snus?

So, you may have heard Zyn called “Zyn Snus” before. It seems that in the world of smoke free alternatives, the terms can tend to run together and get a bit confusing. I wanted to take the time to clarify that. While both snus and nicotine pouches come in a pouch, they aren’t exactly the same thing. Snus, for example, is a pasteurized, smokeless, spit-free tobacco product. Zyn, on the other hand, is a nicotine pouch. Zyn doesn’t contain any tobacco, and instead has a cellulose filler along with nicotine salts and flavorings. Snus is a bit of a more moist, soft pouch. Zyn is a smaller sized, dry, flat pouch. I’ve had it quite a few times, but I personally am more partial to the slim, moist pouches available online from Sweden.

So, you may be familiar with a lot of the flavors of Zyn. You may have certain types that you really enjoy! I’m going to tackle each of the Zyn flavors, and make suggestions for similar recommendations that you can get shipped right to your door!

Zyn Cool Mint and Zyn Peppermint

First, we’ll talk about Zyn Cool Mint and Zyn Peppermint. I wanted to group these two together because they generally have a similar flavor. They’re both in the peppermint family.  This is quite the common flavor with nicotine pouches and pretty easy to make recommendations for! If you like the mini/dry format, you could check out ON! Mint, which is available in two strengths, 3 and 6mg. For me, I’m not the biggest fan of the dry pouch, so I’ll make some suggestions for more moist, more comfortable pouches that I think are better. First, the Velo Ice Cool product has a great, fresh taste of peppermint. It comes in a slim size, but you can also get it in a mini size, which may be more approachable if you like the size of Zyn. For me, I’d suggest Skruf Super White Fresh #2 Medium Slim, which has a smooth, gentle, all day type of peppermint flavor. If you like the taste of peppermint, that would be my personal suggestion.

Zyn Wintergreen

Oh, the taste of wintergreen. It’s funny, I’m not usually the biggest fan of wintergreen but I’ll be honest, over the past few years I’ve been using it more and more. I think it’s since I bought a farm, I’ve found myself outdoors more and it fits the weather quite well. If you like this taste, there’s one nicotine pouch I’d definitely suggest: Kozmo Wintergreen. This one is quite tasty, and quite flavorful. It’s a nice, all day type of wintergreen. Like Zyn, it’s not super in your face, and comes across in a very well balanced, enjoyable way!

Zyn Spearmint

Spearmint is my favorite type of mint. The Zyn flavor of Spearmint is a mild, sweet taste of spearmint. One that I’m really partial to with this flavor is Velo Mint. It’s a slim pouch, with a nice moisture amount. It’s really comfortable under the lip, and has quite a nice flavor. The spearmint taste is gentle, natural, and sweet. It’s a very well done pouch, and has a really enjoyable flavor profile that I think any spearmint lover will enjoy. If you want a mini one, you could also check out Velo Easy Mint Mini, it’s similar in taste but smaller in size.

Zyn Cinnamon

Cinnamon isn’t the most common flavor in nicotine pouches. If I wrote this article a month ago, I honestly wouldn’t be able to make a recommendation. But, recently, the new Velo Cinnamon Flame came out and it’s been quite good. This is a slim, moist nicotine pouch. It has a similar flavor to Zyn Cinnamon in that the cinnamon taste is slightly sweet, but also slightly spicy. I honestly think this one is better than Zyn’s Cinnamon offering and I’d highly recommend trying it!

Zyn Coffee

Zyn’s Coffee is one of their products I’ve always enjoyed. If you like the taste of coffee, there are a few ways you could go with this one. First, there is ON! Coffee, which is pretty similar to Zyn’s. It’s a mini dry pouch, so the format is similar, and the flavor is also pretty comparable if you dig that sort of thing. The one I think is better, though, is Vid Coffee Caramel. It has a slim, moist pouch, and is super comfortable under the upper lip. This one has a really good flavor, I’d say it’s even better than Zyn. The coffee flavor comes across in a smooth way, and is rounded out by this rich taste of caramel in the background. This one truly is a great, and better, alternative!

Zyn Citrus

Citrus is my main flavor that I use. I’ve used the Zyn Citrus a few times, and yes, it isn't too bad. There’s a few ways I could go with this one. First, if you like the mini size, I’d suggest checking out Velo Punchy Lime Mini. It’s a nice, tart, slightly sweet taste of lime that I think the mini pouch fan lovers will be happy with. If you want to go a little bigger and get into the slim pouch size, I have a few I’d recommend. First, Klint Fresh Lime is one that I like a lot myself. I use it often for beer pairing. It has a tart, enjoyable taste of lime in a soft, moist pouch. Another one is Ace Green Lemon, which is another lime one. It’s tart, tangy, and very enjoyable. All three of these options are solid, but I’d definitely suggest checking out Ace or Klint, as those are two of my favorite flavors.

Zyn Menthol

If you like the taste of menthol, there are a handful of nicotine pouches that have that flavor profile. You’ll see some say “menthol”, but also keep an eye out for the term “eucalyptus”. Generally, if a product says it has a eucalyptus flavor, it generally translates to menthol. A few suggestions I have for this one. First, Skruf Superwhite Polar, which has a present, well balanced, enjoyable flavor of menthol. Another one you could check out is Nico Whip. This one is a sweeter one, and has a really nice menthol taste to it. There are a few others out there, but if I had to make suggestions, I’d stick with these two.

Zyn Smooth and Zyn Chill

These two are very similar, so I’m going to group them together. Zyn Smooth and Zyn Chill are unflavored products, for people who want to enjoy nicotine but really don’t want any added flavor. This one is a bit more of a challenge. There aren't a lot of companies that are making pouches without flavor to them. There won’t be a lot of alternatives out there for this sort of thing, honestly. But who knows, companies are making new flavors all the time, so you may come across one at some point!
